NETGEAR DG834(G)B Wireless ADSL Modem Router

This note describes enhancements and bug fixes in DG834B and DG834GB Release Version 3.01.31 software. The enhancements and fixes are those added since Release Version 3.01.25.

Modifications and Bug Fixes

    Version 3.01.31

1. The ADSL driver has been updated to add ADSL2+ support (ATM 5.03.00/ Datapump 5.03.02.00).
2. Fixed a problem with the AOL proxy which prevented Macintosh iChat from working.
3. Fixed a problem where rules to turn off the firewall didn't work when NAT was disabled.
4. Fixed a problem where the wireless SSID would work with up to 31 characters but failed with 32 characters.
5. Fixed a problem with DoS detection.
6. Fixed a problem where VPN Keep-Alive could fail after several hours.
7. Fixed a problem where Internet access failed across a VPN with Trend Micro Security Services (TMSS) enabled (see limitation below in Known Issues).

Known Issues

1. Internet access across a VPN will fail in the case where the remote VPN endpoint is Single PC - No Subnet. It should function when the remote IP is a single address, subnet, or range.
2. Router GUI display issues with Firefox browser.

To Upgrade

To reach the Upgrade menu, click Router Upgrade from the Maintenance section. To upload new firmware:

1. Download and unzip the new file from NETGEAR. The filename after unzipping is DG834B_V3.01.31.img
2. Using a browser, login to the router as admin.
3. Under Maintenanceclick Router Upgrade.
4. Click Browse and locate the upgrade file DG834B_V3.01.31.img.
5. Click Upload.
6. Wait for the upgrade progress bar to complete and final prompt to appear.

If problems occur after upgrading, try clearing the configuration by pressing the Factory Defaults pushbutton on the rear panel until the Test LED blinks (about 10 seconds). Then reenter your configuration information manually.

1. Updated the ADSL driver to fix various DSLAM interoperability issues and improve performance.
2. The firewall has been updated to resolve various issues and improve performance.
3. Fixed a problem with UPnP which prevented certain applications from adding port mapping via UPnP.
4. Added New Zealand to Wireless Country Settings pulldown menu.
5. The Web Support documentation links have been updated.
6. Fixed a problem where certain time zones were not restored from config file.
7. Fixed a problem where a Gateway to Gateway VPN tunnel would fail if DMZ used.
8. Fixed a problem where a LAN service could not be accessed via WAN IP.
9. Fixed a problem where Web page refresh after change to Firewall Rules was slow.
10. Fixed a problem where "NETGEAR *Security Alert*" emails could be sent from the router when only Scheduled Emails have been configured and no "Send E-Mail alerts immediately" boxes were checked.
11. ADSL loss of sync events now recorded in log.
